What a week here is like

A camp day

Check-in is 9:00–9:15 AM. The morning is the main build or project: a LEGO® or VEX® robot, a Scratch or Python game, a canvas. Lunch and outdoor time in the middle. The afternoon continues the morning's work, so by Friday there is something finished to show you.

Pickup is 4:00, or up to 6:00 if you have booked extended care. We release children only to the adults on your pickup list, and we check photo ID.

Who's teaching

We hire for the subject, not for the summer: computer science students teach coding, engineering and robotics students teach robotics, working artists teach art. Each one is trained by us before camp starts, on the curriculum and on running a camp day with children. After ten years of camps we know there's no replacement for a good teacher.

Every instructor is background-checked, and children are supervised at all times, including outdoor recess.

How levels work

You choose the camp. Every camp has levels inside it, from beginner to advanced. Instructors assess your child on Monday and start them at the right level, so beginners and returning campers work side by side, each on something that stretches them. A second week continues from where the first ended. Nothing repeats.

  • Two campers testing LEGO robots with tablets
  • Campers gathered around a robot on a challenge mat
  • Camper coding on a laptop in Scratch

What we are not

We are not a drop-off daycare with a computer in the corner. Children build things. Some weeks that produces a working robot and some weeks it produces a robot that mostly works, which is closer to how engineering actually goes.

If camp isn't right for your child

In the first day or two the instructor gets to know how your child is finding the camp. If it isn’t the right fit, we’ll suggest a switch: a different subject, or a camp better matched to their level. If your child simply isn’t enjoying it, we’ll refund the weeks they don’t attend, prorated. Email us and we’ll sort it out.

“My 6 years old son enjoys this camp so much! The instructors partner him up with two 7 years old kids and he had a blast working with them. The main instructor is so kind to him. Overall a good balance between playing and learning environment here.”

“Fue un espacio de diversión y aprendizaje muy agradable para mi hijo, aprendió y practicó durante su summer camp, las actividades entretenidas y de gran interés para él. Su instructora: Shweta, muy amable, siempre nos comentaba sobre el avance de mi hijo y además nos mostraba videos de sus actividades, así como también permitieron que el nos mostrara lo que hacía durante el día. Su último día tuvieron una actividad lúdica de ver una película y compartir con sus amigos. El año entrante regresaremos por mas tiempo. Recomendado. It was a very enjoyable space for my son to have fun and learn; he learned and practiced a lot during the summer camp, and the activities were entertaining and highly engaging for him. His instructor, Shweta, was very kind; she kept us updated on his progress and showed us videos of the activities, and we were also able to see what he had been doing during the day. On his last day, they had a fun activity where they watched a movie and socialized with friends. We will be back next year for a longer period. Highly recommended.”
